Bridge Repairs – Franschhoek Over the last two weeks, both sides of our company have been hard at work repairing a bridge in Franschhoek. Our engineering team designed and assessed the repairs to ensure the structure remains safe, while our construction team brought those designs to life on site. With support from Sika South Africa, selecting the right product for each repair was critical in restoring the bridge and ensuring its long-term safety. @sikasouthafrica

Do you know why rebar is so important? Concrete is incredibly strong in compression — meaning it handles heavy loads pushing downward extremely well. But concrete is weak in tension caused by pulling, bending, vibration, shifting soil, and temperature changes. That’s where rebar comes in. Rebar handles the tensile forces while concrete handles the compressive forces. Together, they form reinforced concrete — allowing structures to withstand loads, movement, and time. Without rebar, concrete can crack far more easily and may fail under bending or shifting loads. These rebar cages are carefully designed by structural engineers. The spacing, diameter, overlap lengths, hooks, and placement all play a critical role in: • load distribution • crack control • seismic performance • durability • settlement resistance Creating a giant hand-drawn sketch floating in space before it disappears forever into concrete.
